In this semester, VW Caminhões e Ônibus will start the series production of e-Delivery, the first electric truck developed and made in Brazil, with zero emission of CO2, NOX and particulate matter. The solution is in line with the TRATON Group's policy of developing and promoting clean technologies, of which VW Caminhões e Ônibus is part.
The initiative is part of the strategy of systematically investing in electric mobility, recently announced by the TRATON Group, which plans to invest around € 1.6 billion in research and development of electric vehicles by 2025. According to the international statement, until 2030 the companies that make up the Group must meet specific goals for the development of vehicles with alternative fuels.
“The Covid-19 global pandemic imposed many challenges on the whole of society, which promoted route adjustments. And yet, we maintained our commitment to innovation and advances in sustainable mobility, a topic that remains a priority at VW Trucks and Buses ”, says Roberto Cortes, President and CEO of VW Trucks and Buses.
VW Caminhões e Ônibus has been working on the e-Delivery project for about five years. And more than two and a half years ago, he took the electric truck to the streets: there are already more than 30 thousand kilometers run in engineering and operation tests in real conditions, in the distribution of beverages at Cervejaria Ambev in São Paulo. More than 22 tons of CO² are no longer emitted into the atmosphere and, so far, more than 6,500 liters of diesel are no longer consumed.
In addition, the electric truck can be recharged with 100% electric energy from clean sources, such as wind and solar - 43% of its energy comes from the vehicle's own regenerative brake system.
The entire development process follows the same rigor as all VW trucks and buses, ensuring the same safety and reliability in operation with the best energy consumption. This includes all the preparation in the factory's infrastructure and the training of the entire chain involved in the business. Always with the responsibility that everyone already knows about the VWCO brand.
Tailored for urban transport in large cities, e-Delivery brings state-of-the-art solutions for green logistics, such as intelligent systems to adjust the battery demand according to the operation and to recover the braking energy. The trucks can reach a range of up to 200 kilometers, depending on the application and the configuration of the vehicle. The noise level is extremely low when compared to traditional models, improving the comfort of the driver and his assistants in the operation.
