Volkswagen Delivers 90 buses to care services in Brazil

February 07 2019

The 90 Volkswagen microbuses are already at work on the roads in the south of Brazil, having all been acquired for the municipalities in the region. Rio Grande do Sul has already received 43 new Volksbus 8160 ODR, while Santa Catarina has 30 of the vehicles and Paraná 17 units. The vehicles are part of an order for 500 microbuses put out to tender by the Ministry of Social Development, now the Ministry of Citizenship, which was won by VW Caminhões e Ônibus.

The bus which won the tender is the Volkswagen microbus model designed to meet the needs of the rural regions of Brazil - the Volksbus 8160 ODR, the same model that VW supplies to the Federal Government’s Caminho da Escola school bus program. Under the ministry’s contract, the buses can be acquired by local authorities throughout Brazil, including the Federal District, over a period of one year. The first 54 vehicles were delivered to Brasilia (DF) in November 2018.

The Volksbus 8160 ODR has bodywork supplied by the Neobus coachwork company and comes equipped with special wheelchair access equipment. It can transport up to 25 people and supports the care services, benefiting both the users and the multidisciplinary teams of the basic and special needs social care networks which are part of Brazil’s Universal Social Care System. The social care network is intended to identify and deliver social care services to people and families living in precarious conditions.

The models sold to support the programs were delivered to Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus dealers in the south - RF, Transrio, and Servopa - who provide post-sales sales support to the vehicles in the region, part of a network of more than 150 dealers providing post-sales services throughout Brazil.

“We are proud to supply the vehicles that help the population access its rights. We are ready and prepared to offer top quality service for these vehicles and help them deliver their mission”, says Jorge Carrer, Executive Bus Sales Manager at VW Caminhões e Ônibus.
